BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Weekend Box Office Wrap-Up

Captain America reaches new highs, while Amazing Spider-man 2 gets beat in its second week.

Story by: Matt Cummings

It seems as though even the best marketing in the world can still leave audiences a little wanting to see a Summer blockbuster, even when it appears near the top of our May Preview. That's unfortunately been the case with The Amazing Spider-man 2, as domestic audiences have apparently deserted the film in droves. In only its second week of release, the Peter Parker/Gwen Stacy set up for Sinister Six was beat out by the comedy Neighbors, which took in a terrific $51.7m, eclipsing the webslinger's $37.2m. Perhaps its somewhat cool response by critics (ours included) and audiences have contributed to the numbers?

That's certainly not what Sony had in mind, but they have to be happy when comparing it to another superhero flick Captain America: The Winter Solider. After 10 days of release, ASM2 has taken in domestically $147.9m as compared to Cap at $158.8m - that's not too far off from each other, and it gets even more interesting when you look at Spidey overseas. That number is a staggering $403m, bringing its total to $550m.

The Other Woman continues to impress, taking in $9.25m, bringing its total to $61.7, while Heaven is for Real came in fourth place with $7m with $72m overall. Cap 2 came in fifth with $5.6m.

PLEASE NOTE: These numbers are only weekend box office estimates, based on Friday and Saturday ticket sales. Official weekend results will be released on Monday - if you ask nicely enough, we'll update the post with any changes.

Our thanks to Box Office Mojo for this information.
