The first of the new spin-offs could arrive in theaters in 2016, one year after "Star Wars Episode VII," according to Variety.
After announcing the return of several original cast members (Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher) for "Episode VII," Disney has revealed plans to release at least three "Star Wars" spin-off movies, Variety indicates. Disney CEO Robert Iger announced this intention to the company's shareholders in a meeting.
Previously, Disney had expressed the aim to produce one film in the new trilogy per year. So it seems likely that the first spin-off could arrive in theaters in 2016, around one year after the release of "Star Wars Episode VII" on December 18, 2015.
Variety also reports that screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg are currently working on the scripts for the spin-offs. While rumors indicate that the features will focus on Han Solo and the bounty hunter Boba Fett, no plot details have been officially confirmed.
