Chris Pratt, who leads next summer’s Marvel movie Guardians of the Galaxy, is in early talks to star in Jurassic World, Universal’s latest installment of the Jurassic Park movie series.
Pratt would star as the movie’s male lead, a rugged ex-military man, whose foil is the already-cast Bryce Dallas Howard, who plays a smart corporate scientist.
The part was initially earmarked for Josh Brolin, but reports of Brolin’s involvement proved premature as the actor’s talks didn’t get very far. The same could happen here. There is an offer on the table but it's still early going.
Ty Simpkins and Nick Robinson also are part of the cast, playing Howard’s nephews. Colin Trevorrow is directing the movie, which is being produced by Frank Marshall and Pat Crowley.
Trevorrow and Steven Spielberg, who is exec producing, are working in tandem to handpick the actors for the movie.
Pratt may be on the verge of stardom and Jurassic could tip that balance.
The actor has appeared in bit parts in Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty but is best known for being part of the ensemble of NBC’s comedy Parks & Recreation.
He has the potential to become a leading man with his portrayal of Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy. Though the movie is based on a group of lesser-known heroes, it will have massive awareness as it carries the Marvel imprimatur. If Pratt does end up doing Jurassic, it puts Universal in prime position to capitalize on his growing stardom.
