After receiving praise for his scene-stealing role as Tom Buchanan in Warner Bros. “The Great Gatsby,” WB is ready to stay in business with Joel Edgerton, as the actor is in negotiations to co-star with Michael Shannon in the untitled Jeff Nichols pic.
Sarah Green and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones are producing with Nichols, who’s also writing the project. WB had previously acquired the script before setting Nichols to direct.
Exact plot details are being kept under wraps but sources have described it as a present-day sci-fi chase film. Glen Basner and Christos V. Konstantakopoulos will exec produce.
The news made headlines last month when the studio picked up the project, given that it was the first major studio movie for Nichols after the success of indies “Take Shelter” and “Mud.” Edgerton’s commitment gives the project even more heft, and it looks on track to start production early next year.
Edgerton is currently shooting “Jane Got a Gun” and is also attached to the Whitey Bulger biopic “Black Mass.”
