There was a time when Lenny Kravitz’s only connection to movies was when his songs appearing on the soundtrack. But, thanks to a small role in Precious , playing Cinna in The Hunger Games (a part he’ll reprise in Catching Fire ), and Lee Daniels' upcoming The Butler , he’s now making strides on screen. And according to the Evening Standard, he’s now director Julien Temple’s choice to play Marvin Gaye in a new film. The movie, which has been in development for a while now (and has faced down competition from Cameron Crowe’s planned biopic) is set near the end of the singer’s life. With his glory days seemingly behind him, Gaye had fled to London under investigation for tax evasion and deep into drug and alcohol addiction. Earlier this week, Mark Millar revealed that work was still ongoing with the big screen adaptation of his and Steve McNiven's Nemesis , and the wriiter has now confirmed (via the Millarworld Forums ) that Joe Carnahan will indeed direct and write the screenplay alongside his brother Matthew. The former was recently in the running to helm a 1970s set Daredevil movie for Fox, but issues with the rights now means that that will not be happening. With any luck, that bad news for fans of the "Man Without Fear" will be good news for fans of Nemesis. Now that Hugh Grant and writer/director Marc Lawrence have officially decided to join forces for what will be their fourth romantic-comedy collaboration, they’re starting to lock down actors for other roles in the new, as-yet-untitled movie. The once-a-year announcement continues to be entirely unsurprising, but here it is anyway... Following the success of this year's Paranormal Activity 4 , Halloween 2013 will see Paranormal Activity 5 making sudden loud noises in your local multiplex. There are no details yet, other than the release date of October 25, so it's unclear if the directors of the last two installments, Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (who also made the excellent Catfish) will be returning for a third time. Their two Paranormals introduced some new story threads that are still dangling, however, so it may be that they want to stay for at least one more stint to tie those up. But Deadline’s sources have heard that franchise veteran Lawrence Kasdan and Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg are in contention to script the second and third films in the planned new Star Wars trilogy. Naturally, Disney isn’t commenting on the speculation, but if it does turn out to be true, it could be very good news. That's particularly so in Kasdan’s case, since this is the man who co-wrote The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi - not to mention his work on Raiders Of The Lost Ark . Red Dawn is a remake that vacillates between gritty war feature and bubble-gum drama, doing neither particularly well. In the genre of war movies, there are generally two kinds that Hollywood produces: ones that display the heavy trauma associated with war; and the mindless, unrealistic action flick that insults our intelligence with its implausibility. Both have their detractors - who can watch Saving Private Ryan more than once per year without wanting to slash their wrists for displaying war in such a graphic manner? In the latter category, the action is so unbelievable - whether it be people surviving a massive explosion or somehow beating someone twice their size - that you never really feel for the characters when they experience difficulty, thus losing any buy-in and therefore interest. Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne will reprise their roles for Insidious Chapter 2 , the sequel to the hit 2010 horror movie made by FilmDistrict, Alliance Films and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions. James Wan will return as director for the second chapter, which also will bring back actors Lin Shaye and Ty Simpkins as well as original screenwriter Leigh Whannell. Jason Blum is returning as producer. FilmDistrict will release the film in the U.S. on Aug. 30, while Alliance Films, which is financing, will distribute in Canada, the U.K. (via its Momentum Pictures subsidiary) and Spain (via Aurum). Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions will distribute in all other international territories. Production is set to begin Jan. 15 in Los Angeles. Insidious was made for only $1.5 million and grossed $97 million worldwide, proving a boon for FilmDistrict, which had the rights. Liam Neeson is in negotiations to star in the crime thriller “ The All Nighter (AKA Run All Night)” a person familiar with the situation has told TheWrap . The story follows an aging hit man who, in order to protect his wife and son, must take on his former boss in a single night. He then winds up on the run from the mob and the authorities with his estranged son. The film is being produced by Vertigo Entertainment’s Roy Lee, along with Brooklyn Weaver for Warner Bros. which declined to comment.
