The Words Review By: MattInRC Does The Words establish itself as an Oscar candidate, or find itself on the discount book pile? Warning: major spoilers ahead. With the Summer movie season officially over, all eyes turn to the Fall, where Oscar contenders lie in wait like a scene from African Cats. With the exception of a few upcoming action flicks (Skyfall and The Hobbit), the mood at theaters becomes decidedly dramatic, complete with male crying, overly-dramatic music, and a general feeling that the theater has been pumped with estrogen. A year after NBC rejected David E. Kelley's Wonder Woman , the CW is prepping its own take on the DC Comics super hero. Grey's Anatomy's Allan Heinberg is attached to write Amazon (working title), an origin story about Wonder Woman's alter ego Diana of Themyscira, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. As first reported by Vulture, the project will focus on Wonder Woman as a budding hero rather than the already established personality that existed in Kelley's take that starred Friday Night Lights' Adrianne Palicki . Remember that live-action Heavy Metal TV series we heard about early last year? Well, it's almost here—and we have a bone-crunching new trailer to prove it. The series, based on the French sci-fi fantasy comic Metal Hurlant Chronicles , will be broken up into two 12-episode seasons featuring 30-minute episodes. It's being produced in France, and creators We Productions and United Humanoids are lining up worldwide distribution deals to bring the series to additional markets. No U.S. distribution agreement has been made at this point. Universal is working on a follow-up to one of its biggest domestic hits of 2012, Safe House . David Guggenheim , who wrote the original script while working a day job as an editor at Us Weekly, is back to pen the as-yet-untitled sequel. Scott Stuber is returning as producer via his Universal-based Bluegrass Films. The action-thriller original followed a bored young CIA agent ( Ryan Reynolds ) overseeing a South African safe house who is thrust into a life-and-death adventure when he has to keep a rogue agent ( Denzel Washington ) safe. Directed by Daniel Espinosa, Safe House made $126 million domestically and $202 million worldwide. Reynolds likely would return to star in the sequel, though a source says no deal has been made. Washington’s involvement is less clear because (spoiler alert) his character didn't survive the first movie. Sources say the studio is keen to have Washington involved, however. For the vast majority of his career, Michael Fassbender has been known for serious drama, big action movies or films without much to really laugh about (unless you count some of the X-Men: First Class comedy moments or used giggling as a self defence mechanism while watching Jonah Hex ). But now he’s signed up for a comedy in the shape of Frank . Lenny Abrahamson is set to direct the film, which boasts a script by Jon Ronson and Peter Straughan (who, possibly not coincidentally, adapted Ronson’s book The Man Who Stare At Goats for the big screen). Frank follows the misadventures of an aspiring musician ( Domhnall Gleeson ), who gets in over his head when he joins an eccentric rock band led by the OTT Frank ( Fassbender ). The plug was pulled this morning on Motor City , the revenge drama that was scheduled to start production late this month with Albert Hughes directing and Gerard Butler, Mickey Rourke and Adrien Brody starring. The film was in pre-production, and the crew was just told to go home. It is an abrupt and chaotic development. Motor City stalled after the film’s backers, Emmett/Furla Films, Envision Entertainment, and Mark Damon’s Foresight Entertainment, realized at the last moment that the release date given them by Warner Bros through its deal with Joel Silver’s Dark Castle turned out to be a drop dead date. Production was to start September 17th, meaning the film could only have 12 weeks of post production. It wasn’t enough time. They needed that studio release to justify all of the foreign distribution deals made for the film by Damon. As a result, they could not secure a bond and couldn’t move forward. Michael Clarke Duncan's fiancee says the Oscar nominee for " The Green Mile " has died while being hospitalized following a July heart attack. Publicist Joy Fehily released a statement from Clarke's fiancTe, the Rev. Omarosa Manigault, saying the 54-year-old actor died Monday morning in a Los Angeles hospital after nearly two months of treatment following the July 13 heart attack. The 6-foot-5, 300 pound Duncan appeared in dozens of films, including such box office hits as " Armageddon ," " Planet of the Apes " and " Kung Fu Panda ," Duncan had a handful of minor roles before "The Green Mile" brought him an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actor. Through Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck incarnations, the character of Jack Ryan has never been less than entertaining and has often been at the centre of great thrillers. Next year, we get to see Chris Pine tackle the sometime-Marine, sometime-CIA analyst in, er, Jack Ryan, and here's our first look at Pine in character. So what can we tell from this? Well, not much. It's not like Ryan has an iconic scar or haircut (unless you count short-back-and-sides as iconic) and looks much like a normal, albeit improbably handsome, bloke. We know that the story sees a young version of the ex-Marine, invalided out of the service after a horrific helicopter accident, become a financial consultant to a Russian billionaire* and get framed for an act of terrorism. It is, in fact, the strange-but-true story of mob assassin Richard Kuklinski . Shannon plays Kuklinski, a man who led a strictly separate double life. To his wife Deborah ( Winona Ryder ), he was a loving, attentive family man and business type who was gainfully employed. But his other existence was something quite different: he specialised in untraceable killings and got his nickname thanks to his habit of freezing his victims post mortem to keep them from the prying detection of the police and forensics investigators. The Possession Review By: MattInRC The Possession is nothing more than cheap cliched horror about...you guessed it...demonic possession. Horror flicks have become so predictable and repetitive lately (with the exception of the disturbing The Human Centipede ) that the genre seems completely out of ideas. The Possession doesn't help kick things out of their doldrums, delivering every single plot cliche available, including the cut-to-black screen followed by the single lower-end piano strike. The movie stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Losers) and Kyra Segwick (The Closer) as recent divorcees whose youngest daughter Emily (newcomer Natasha Calis ) purchases a wooden box with Jewish markings at a yard sale.
