Eli Roth & Russell Crowe Attached To Harker?

Eli Roth is hot again. I’ve just learned that the creator of the Hostel franchise (whose last installment bombed), director, producer, and occasional actor (Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds) is in talks to go back behind the camera for a Warner Bros project in development to star Russell Crowe . That’s right, Crowe is now attached. But not to play the role of Harke r in the spec script by Lee Shipman & Brian McGreevy that’s a reimagining of Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Instead, I’ve learned that Crowe is attached to play Dracula who is tracked by Jonathan Harker, a Scotland Yard detective. Hmm, Crowe as Dracula: cool, huh? Crowe is only on board for the first film, but the script sets up the sleuth as a potential new franchise character. Harker is as yet uncast — and boy, is that a juicy role for a leading man. “Once they figure out the story then they’ll figure out who’s right to play him,” a source says. Crowe and Roth worked together on the upcoming RZA-directed actioner, Th...

Channing Tatum To Play 'Evel’ Knievel

Legendary stuntman Robert ‘Evel’ Knievel is one of those fascinating real-life figures that Hollywood just can’t get enough of. And neither, it would seem can Magic Mike’s Channing Tatum , as the prolific producer / Handsome McGee is lining up a movie about the man with Sony. Known to his family as Robert Craig Knievel, Evel became a household name in the 1970s for his ambitious motorcycle jumps. Leaping across buses and anything else he could round up, he was known for his flashy patriotic outfits and the 433 bones he broke when several stunts went wrong. But despite liver troubles, he survived to 69, dying in 2007. At least two movies have been made about him, one a 1971 effort called Evel Knievel that starred George Hamilton, the other 1977’s Viva Knievel! which featured Evel himself in the lead. Then in 2004, there was talk of McG making a biopic about Knievel called Pure Evel, but it stalled in development. With the hot streak he’s on at the moment (Magic Mike streak pu...

James Woods Goes To The White House

It would appear that, in the race to make the first White House in peril thriller of 2013, every time one of the films announces some casting news, the other has to follow suit. So with this weekend’s talk of Radha Mitchell signed to Olympus Has Fallen, now there’s word that James Woods is in early talks for White House Down . Roland Emmerich is in charge of this one, overseeing a story that finds Channing Tatum as a Secret Service agent tasked with saving the President when a paramilitary group takes over his residence. Assuming he makes a deal, Woods will be playing the head of the President’s guard detail, and Tatum’s boss. He’d be joining a cast that also includes Maggie Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx . Though Olympus appears to have the jump in terms of shooting, White House Down has a James Vanderbilt script and Emmerich’s history with the White House to spur interest. Emmerich will start cranking the cameras next month. Frankly, we figure they should save costs and use t...

Anthony Hopkins Signs On For Noah

Though he already has the likes of Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Ray Winstone aboard Biblical epic Noah , Darren Aronofsky is finding room aboard the story for more top talent. The director has announced on Twitter that Anthony Hopkins has signed to play Methuselah . Hitting the social media network, Aronofsky tweeted, “I'm honoured to be working with the great sir Anthony Hopkins. We just added him to the stellar cast of Noah.” Methuselah is listed as the oldest person in the Bible, clocking in at the ripe old age of 969, and one of the people around shortly before the great flood that will most likely form the ticking clock threat of Aronofsky’s tale. We’ll be interested as to whether the director goes the Prometheus route with the character and slathers Hopkins in old man make-up, or whether he’s stick with the actors’ own gracefully aged mug and present Methuselah as looking great for his nearly-1,000-year age. The cast also includes Logan Lerman and Dougla...

Michael Fassbender To Star In Assassin's Creed Film

After a tortured period of to-ing and fro-ing between studio Sony and game publisher Ubisoft, Michael Fassbender is officially on board to star and co-produce a cinematic adaptation of the immensely popular Assassin's Creed gaming franchise. It's a shot in the arm for the creators who after rejecting Sony have been without an official studio home. Taking on the role of Desmond Miles - originally voiced by Nolan North, the man behind Uncharted's Nathan Drake and many more - as well as his bloodletting ancestors, the plot in of itself is still unconfirmed, but it looks set to hit the screen, big studio backing or not. For anyone unaware of Assassin's Creed's set-up, the games' plots revolve around an unassuming barman drawn into a fantastical world of assassins' guilds. Travelling through history, he's asked to relive his family's lives through the magic of cutting-edge DNA technology. The creative forces behind the 30 million unit-selling gami...
