Moonrise Kingdom Movie Review By: Matt C Moonrise Kingdom is uniquely quirky, captivating, and one of best the films of the year. The central theme to Moonrise Kingdom is the danger inherent in labeling certain elements of society as strange or even dangerous without looking a little deeper. Yet the film is so much more than a simple soapbox statement: it's genuinely funny, incredibly honest about itself, existing in a world that feels both familiar and a little off center, much like its main characters. Set among the pine and maple trees on a fictitious 1965 New England island called New Penzance, two children ( Kara Hayward and Jared Gilman ) decide to run away, rejecting the small-town labels they've been given, and touching off a manhunt by the police and local scout master. Studios are relying heavily on sequels this summer, but the toughest thing to do is to introduce something new that launches a franchise. It looks like Universal has done that with Snow White And The Huntsman . I’m told that the studio is making all the moves that indicate another chapter is in the offing, and on a fast track. The studio is now talking with director Rupert Sanders about a return, after he made his feature directing debut on the first installment. Emma Watson is in talks to join Darren Aronofsky’s cast of Noah , which stars Russell Crowe as the Biblical ark builder. Watson is in discussions to play Ila, a young woman who develops a close relationship with Noah’s son, Shem. That role will be played by Douglas Booth, with Logan Lerman playing Noah’s other son, Ham. Still to be cast is Noah’s wife– Jennifer Connelly is one of the actresses in contention–and Noah’s nemesis. The film’s being co-financed by Paramount and New Regency. Screenwriter Damon Lindelof has been brought in to save Paramount’s zombie movie World War Z . Paramount Release Shakeup: Tom Cruise's ' One Shot ' to Christmas; Brad Pitt's ' World War Z ' to Summer The big-budget movie starring Brad Pitt, who also is one of the producers, has been troubled. Its release has been pushed from December 2012 to June, 21 2013, and is awaiting significant reshoots. Lindelof, the Lost co-creator and co-author of Ridley Scott and Fox’s Prometheus , is said to be focusing on World War Z's third act. The production hopes to begin reshoots in September or October. World War Z , based on the 2006 novel by Max Brooks, is intended to be a zombie picture with sociological and political overtones. It also stars Mireille Enos (The Killing), James Badge Dale and Anthony Mackie . Marc Forster is directing the movie, which shot last year in various European locales. Known for two of the greatest science fiction films of all time ( Alien and Blade Runner ), Scott created worlds far from each other, but both rooted in very similar and familiar principles. From the clean white walls of his starships, to the gritty, greasy, well-worn environment behind them, his universe is filled with the very real world ills of corporate greed and the despicable people tasked with running them. In many ways, he has envisioned a future that's more practical and possible than of Star Trek and Star Wars , but not one that's comfortable to watch. Other directors have followed suit, each with varying levels of success; in fact, one cannot list a science fiction film from the past 30 years that doesn't pay homage in some way to Scott's 'worn universe.' Even as he guides passion project Pain And Gain through the post-production process, Michael Bay is steeling himself to dive back into the maelstrom that is another Transformers entry. He debated whether or not to step back into the franchise after Dark Of The Moon , but was convinced after Paramount gave him the time and space to make Pain. But according to the director, the fourth adventure with Optimus Prime and the rest will be his last. Speaking with the LA Times as the new Transformers theme park ride opened at Universal Studios in California, Bay dropped a couple of nuggets about the next film, including the fact that there will be some redesigning of the robots and that he’s looking to start with an entirely new cast. No, we do not mean to imply that Jamie Foxx is going to be entering this November’s US Presidential election. He’s simply on the top of White House Down director Roland Emmerich’s wishlist to play POTUS in his new thriller. Emmerich already has Channing Tatum officially aboard to play a Secret Service agent who must do his duty when a paramilitary group overcomes White House security and takes everyone inside hostage. Including, of course, the Commander in Chief, who is not best pleased to suddenly be a prisoner in his own home. Variety reports that negotiations haven’t kicked off yet, but that Foxx is “intrigued” by the chance to play the president. We’re guessing he might want to wait to read James Vanderbilt’s script and interrogate Emmerich about his plans before he even starts up talks.
