BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Vince Vaughn Has Triple Time

Looking to assert himself outside the comedy genre, Vince Vaughn has signed on to star in "Triple Time," an action-thriller movie that Peter Billingsley will direct.

Scott Steindorff's shingle Scott Pictures preemptively purchased the spec script co-written by Michael J. Wilson and Billingsley.

Two-hander follows a broke U.S. marshal (Vaughn) tasked with escorting a prisoner accused of an environmental disaster to Washington, D.C. When their transport plane explodes, the unlikely pair must work together to figure out who is behind the conspiracy, which may include one of them.

Vince and Victoria Vaughn will produce through their Wild West Pictures Show banner along with Steindorff, the founder and CEO of Scott Pictures, whose Peter Fruchtman, Scott LaStaiti and Dylan Russell will serve as exec producers.11 CAA packaged the project and will represent domestic distribution rights, with Scott Pictures Intl. handling foreign sales.

Having anchored hit comedies such as "Wedding Crashers" and "Old School," Vaughn has been looking to branch out from the genre and establish himself as an action star. Thesp is attached to topline Randall Wallace's "Gunslingers" at New Regency as well as a feature adaptation of "The Rockford Files" at Universal, and he had also been circling Emmett/Furla's "Lucky Strike" prior to Tony Scott's death. Vaughn recently wrapped Shawn Levy's comedy "The Internship" for Fox and will soon begin filming DreamWorks' remake of "Starbuck."

Billingsley, who directed Vaughn in the 2009 Universal comedy "Couple's Retreat," also exec produced "Iron Man."

Wilson is currently writing the action-thriller "Samurai" with Gavin O'Connor, who is attached to direct the pic for Warner Bros. He also recently sold the spec thriller "Inventory" to Bruce Willis and his Willis Brothers Films banner.

A production and financing company founded by Steindorff ("The Lincoln Lawyer") and Peter Nathanial, Scott Pictures is producing Lynne Ramsay's "Jane Got a Gun," which will star Natalie Portman. Company is also producing Olivier Megaton's horror-thriller "Land of the Living" and an adaptation of Jessica Khoury's fantasy novel "Origin."

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
