Michael Jai White has joked in the past that the sequel to Black Dynamite will be "blacker and dynamitier." But we shouldn't take that to mean it'll necessarily chronicle the further adventures of the titular CIA 'Nam vet however. According to White, it's likely that the next film will be a Western.
Black Dynamite, if you're unlucky enough not to have caught it so far, is a blaxploitation spoof in which BD, on the trail of his brother's killer, foils a dastardly plot involving Anaconda malt liquor, the kung-fu island of Fiendish Dr Wu, and Nixon's White House. Arsenio Hall co-starred as Tasty Freeze, with Bokeem Woodbine as Black Hand Jack and Tommy Davidson as Cream Corn. If you want further adventures from those characters, there's an animated spin-off, but next?
"In the inception of Black Dynamite, there were a few types of ideas we were going to do," White tells CraveOnline. "Kind of like Monty Python, [we thought we might] use the same cast but do different types of movies. We had discussed, and it looks like we're getting close to a decision on something that would be a Western comedy in the spirit of Blazing Saddles, mixed with Buck And The Preacher."
Black Dynamite 2 - whatever it turns out to be - isn't quite up and running yet, but sounds as if it's in pretty active development. Expect much the same cast as previously with, presumably, Scott Sanders re-establishing his place behind the camera when shooting eventually starts.
