Wentworth Miller Could Star In Edgar Sawtelle

Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman, Oprah Winfrey, and Kate Forte are producing Universal's adaptation of the David Wroblewski best-seller.

Wentworth Miller is picking up the keyboard again.

The actor, best known as the star of Fox's Prison Break, is in negotiations to tackle of adaptation of The Story of Edgar Sawtelle. The David Wroblewski novel is set up at Universal with Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman producing via their Playtone banner, and Oprah Winfrey and Kate Forte producing via Harpo Films.

Chosen as one of Winfrey’s book club selections in 2008, the Hamlet-like story centers on a mute boy who is the son of dog breeders. When his father mysteriously dies, circumstances force the teen to run away from home, three dogs in tow, into the woods where he plots a return to expose his uncle as the killer.

William Broyles Jr. (Apollo 13) wrote an initial draft.

Miller surprised many when he set up his spec Stoker at Fox Searchlight, where it quickly hopped on the fast track and got made with Mia Wasikowska, Nicole Kidman and Matthew Goode (that movie, too, deals with a father’s death, a teen, and a mysterious uncle).

And while Miller has continued acting - his latest gig is the Dark Castle Entertainment thriller Loft, now in post – he has kept one hand on the keyboard. He is penning the English-language remake of With a Friend Like Harry, being produced by Maven Pictures that has Kimberly Pierce attached.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy.
