James Franco is set to join Jason Statham in Millennium Films' action-thriller "Homefront," which Gary Fleder will direct from a script by Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone will produce with Kevin King Templeton and Rene Besson, while Avi Lerner and Trevor Short will exec produce.
Story follows Phil Broker (Statham), an ex-DEA agent who moves his family to a quiet town hoping to escape his past. However, he finds the town to be overrun with violence, drug traffickers and an evil meth magnate named Gator (Franco). To save his endangered family, retribution is now the only thing Broker seeks.
"I cannot think of a better group to put this film on the big screen," said Lerner. "Sly's script is fantastic, James and Jason are remarkable actors and Gary really knows how direct this type of film. We start production at the end of September in New Orleans."
Fleder previously directed the thrillers "Runaway Jury" and "Kiss the Girls," while Stallone and Statham next co-star together in "The Expendables 2," which opens Aug. 17.
Franco will soon be seen in two Millennium pics -- "Lovelace," in which he plays Hugh Hefner, and Ariel Vroman's true crime film "The Iceman." Thesp has also wrapped Sam Raimi's Disney pic "Oz the Great and Powerful" and Harmony Korine's "Spring Breakers."
