IT'S ON! MAVERICKS FESTIVAL IS SET FOR SATURDAY Rain or Shine - Mavericks Festival & Awards Ceremony Confirmed For March 31.
The highly anticipated Mavericks Festival and Mavericks Awards are confirmed to take place this Saturday, March 31st, on the outside grounds of the Oceano Hotel & Spa in Princeton Harbor, Half Moon Bay. The notorious Mavericks swell and the talented big wave surfers who challenge it will be celebrated throughout the day?s events.
Contest director and Mavericks pioneer, Jeff Clark, with KNBR host and former Oakland A?s player Eric Byrnes, will emcee the festivities. The festival will feature live music, exciting interviews with the surfers, rare Mavericks surf footage, delicious food booths, giveaways, and the inaugural Mavericks Awards.
Festival sponsors GoPro and Red Bull will be on site along with a challenging skateboard ramp set up on the festival grounds. Boarders can test their skills with the pros, but are required to bring a skateboard, and wear a helmet.
Mother Nature didn't throw us the perfect conditions for a contest, and she may throw us a curve ball Saturday with a little rain and wind, but that won't stop us,? said Clark. ?When it?s Mavericks, you have to be ready for a few curve balls.?
Curve balls indeed! The competitors trained all season long to prepare not just for Mavericks, but also for the Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau in Hawaii, the Nelscott Reef Big Wave Classic in Oregon, and The Peligroso at Todos Santos in Mexico ? none of which happened this year because of calmer weather attributed to ocean-atmosphere phenomenon La Niña. Rather than end the season with a La Niña whimper, organizers are going out with a roar and a party to celebrate the athletes who brave through the 1?2 mile paddle out to challenge this jaw dropping wave.
