Following on from the success of Life In A Day, Ridley and Tony Scott have decided to turn the format into a franchise, featuring twice the number of explosions and a different situation for Sigourney Weaver to… All right, so they’ve actually just joined forces with Fuji TV to capture a Japan In A Day, which will focus on March 11.
The day is significant because the earthquake and tsunami struck last year on that date. Scott Free’s plan is to give out 200 cameras to people in the most heavily affected areas and have them, as with Life, document one 24-hour period starting at midnight. The best footage will then be edited together and combined with Fuji TV’s coverage to create a new documentary feature.
Director Kevin Macdonald oversaw Life In A Day, but there’s no word yet on who will be helping get the Japanese project into shape. While Ridley Scott is again acting as executive producer, we doubt he’ll have the time to be completely hands-on, given that he’s finishing and promoting Prometheus and preparing to shoot Cormac McCarthy script The Counsellor alongside developing approximately 72,000 other projects.
