BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Underworld Awakening Rules The Box Office

It’s not every day you can report that a vampire in a catsuit defeated several heroic World War II pilots, but this past weekend at the US Box Office, Kate Beckinsale and her seemingly unstoppable Underworld franchise saw off competition from George Lucas’ Red Tails to score the top spot. Underworld Awakening took home $25.4m, while the based-on-truth war pic nabbed $19.1m.

RED TAILS Movie Review-

Last week’s top dog, Contraband, slipped to third with $12.2m. Wannabe awards bait Tom Hanks/Sandra Bullock drama Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close jumped into the top ten by expanding into more than 2,800 cinemas and was rewarded with fourth and a $10.5m weekend, which represents a jump of 11,484% over last week’s earnings. Steven Soderbergh didn’t have much to cheer about, though, as Haywire opened quietly in fifth with $9 million.

Beauty And The Beast’s 3D re-release began to slide down the charts quickly, landing in sixth place with $8.5m. Joyful Noise also saw its fortunes sink, slumping from fourth to seventh and $6m. Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was eighth with $5.5m and Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows fell to ninth and $4.8m. Rounding out the top ten, we have David Fincher’s version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, which made $3.7m.
