BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Super 8 Movie Review By: SandwichJohn

Super 8 Movie Review
By: SandwichJohn

I gotta say that the movie did take me back to being a kid and watching E.T or Goonies for the first time. A group of kids on an adventure to find out the true about something. Super 8 has amazing visual effects, camera work, and the sound was just mind blowing. And I think that Elle Fanning and Joel Courtney will be getting a ton of movie offers after this film. This is going to be their break out film.

With all the mystery surrounding the film , did it help or hurt the film? The box office will answer that next week. But I thought they did a great job teasing what was in the Air Force container. And I will not spoil that for you.

From Writer- Director J.J. Abrams comes a film that will take you back to your childhood, with
all the happiness of hanging out with friends, your fears, and sadness. Executive Producer Steven Spielberg definitively had an impact on the story telling and directing of this film. You can feel his touch on the film when you watch it.

It is the summer of 1979 and Joel Courtney as Joe Lamb, Elle Fanning as Alice Dainard, Ryan Lee as Carey, Zach Mills as Preston, Riley Griffiths as Charles Kazny and Gabriel Basso as Martin are set to make their own zombie movie. They get their dream lead actress (Alice) and believe they are on their way to making an instant classic. While filming their movie's climactic scene, a spectacular train crash sends them into peril. Dodging debris and running for their lives, it becomes immediately apparent that something is not right with this train.

The crash scene had to be one of the most spectacular choreographed scene in a long time. It just never stopped. Trust me you will be holding onto your seat during this ride. This is where the film starts to take off.

The title of the film comes from the camera the kids are using to film their Zombie movie. Does the Super 8 film hold the key to the mystery why people and animals are missing?

I think the less you know about Super 8 the better. Watching the film with not knowing much about it will make the experience better.

The second half of the film does slow down and it feels like the film starts to drag a bit. But overall a great summer film that I really hope finds an audience out there. They don't make movies in this fashion any more.

Also stay until the end of the credits. I should do another review for the scenes you get to see then.

The train wreck was amazing

Films hearkening back to the director's childhood only work once. I hope revisiting J.J. Abrams' pubescent years is worth it.

A loud physically impossible train wreck and flashing lights do not a sci-fi movie make.

Loved the nostalgic feel. In 1979 I was 13. So, I could definitely relate to that trip down memory lane. The charm of kid characters was indeed reminiscent of early Spielberg. I agree with your assessment that this film will launch a couple of film careers. The bus scene reminded me of Jurassic Park with the T-Rex attack. Overall, the sound & visual effects were impressive. That train wreck was definitely a thrill ride! A few sections dragged but overall, I recommend it for classic summer movie fun!
