BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

Hanna Movie Review By: SandwichJohn

Hanna Movie Review
By: SandwichJohn

I have to start off by saying that this movie was honestly really well made. The direction in the film was just amazing, and the entire movie was like a painting in the making, by the end of the film you got to see the master piece. The Best movie of the year so far. Make sure to come back later this week for my interview with director Joe Wright and star Saorise Ronan.

If your going into the film wanting a straight action film then this movie isn't what your looking for. The story is the true star of the movie with superb action thrown in.

The movie was directed by Joe Wright who is not known for action movies at all. He is known more for directing period pieces. He has directed films like Pride & Prejudice, Oscar nominated Atonement and The Soloist. With this being his first taste directing action films, I think this is one path if he decides to continue down would be a nice change for the genre of directing action films. And the score for the film was just incredible. The uncut takes that follow the actors from scene to scene, the long, uncut takes that have the camera following characters through multifaceted choreographed fights were a refreshing change from the over done slow motion fight scenes. The Chemical Brothers did a superb job on the tone of the film. We were told during Wonder Con that there were a few times the director would play the score while they were filming so that the actors would get a sense of the tone of the scence they were shooting.

Now we have to talk about the star of the film, Saoirse Ronan.  This was definitely a new role for her. Her previous work includes Atonement (Golden Globe and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress) and The Lovely Bones. We found Hit-Girls long lost sister in this film.

Hanna played by Saorise Ronan is a young woman living in a cabin in Finland with her father, Erik Heller who is played by Eric Bana. Heller has dedicated his entire life to training his young daughter with the skills she will need to survive. Adapt or Die was imprinted into her mind by her father day after day. Hanna is given the choice to be found or to live her life in seclusion. She chooses to hit a switch, alerting the outside world to her presence.

Within a day a CIA recovery team is there to retrieve Heller and to their surprise they find Hanna, and Heller is nowhere to be found. Next we see Hanna in a holding cell somewhere in the world. She is watched on closed circuit camera by Marissa Wiegler (Cate Blanchett) The once shy and timid girl turns into a stone cold Bad ass. Hanna kills a woman posing as Marissa Wiegler and escapes.

Once Hanna is on the outside she experience things she has only read in books. Things that we all take for granted. Like lights, music and boys. Hanna meets this British family and quickly bonds with their teenage daughter. The two of them experience things that Hanna has never had a chance to see or do.

When we come to the climatic scene in the film they are in an abandoned amusement park that reminds you of the great fairy tell stories written by Brothers Grimm. The fighting in these few scenes will remind you of some of your favorite video games.  With most films what you see in the trailer is the best moments of a film. In this cases it is not true, the marketing people kept out most the the best scenes of the movie.

This film has to be one of those underrated films that I really hope people see in theaters and not on DVD. Get off your ass and go see the film!
