When Discovery executives take the stage at Lincoln Center for their annual upfront presentation later today, they’ll have three specials, 4 new series and another 12 returning shows to share with Madison Avenue buyers.
Among the specials lining the schedule of Discovery Communications’ mothership is Frozen Planet, from the team behind Discovery’s award winning Planet Earth. As its title suggests, Frozen will take viewers to the earth’s polar regions. Joining it are Where’s My Mammoth and the summer-time return of Shark Week.
The net’s new series include Penn & Teller’s Secrets of the Universe, which has the Vegas duo answering such head scratchers such as ‘Can you lift a 5,000-pound car with human hair?’ and ‘Does cursing help with pain management?’ Looking to engage viewers in an increasingly fractured environment, a multi-platform audience will have to guess which of the stories the pair shares is not true.
Other new series include Best in the Business (the series will pit farmer vs farmer, fireman vs fireman, florist vs florist, and so on), Swamp Brothers (a show about two brothers who run Florida's largest reptile sanctuary and exotic reptile dealership) and Life on a Wire (a program about a daredevil family and its death-defying stunts).
Returning favorites include Deadliest Catch, American Chopper and Dirty Jobs, among many more.
