Book Of Eli Movie Review By:Sandwichjohn I had high hopes for Book of Eli, as I do for any Denzel Washington film, and while it didn’t quite live up to my high hopes it was still a good film. Denzel Washington stars as Eli, the protector of the last known copy of a certain book. It has been 31 years since “the flash” and subsequent war destroyed the world as we know it. The world now is a desolate waste land where water is scarce and books are scarcer. Gary Oldman stars as Carnegie, a corrupted mayor in a makeshift town that Eli wanders into. Carnegie has become obsessed with finding a copy of the book, he believes the words of the book have great power and that he could become a great leader with it. Mila Kunis stars as Solara, the daughter of Carnegie’s companion, who follows Eli after he escapes from the town. The action sequences were really well done. Towards the beginning of the film there was a great action sequence when Eli encounters some scavengers trying to rob him. Another

Karate Kid Remake Scores Huge On Test Screening I don't care how high the movie scores it will never compare to the original film. Generation Xers may have bemoaned the redo of their 1984 childhood favorite The Karate Kid (I know I did) with none other than silver spooner Jaden Smith taking on the Ralph Macchio role. But, perhaps the results from Sony’s early test screening of the movie from director Harold Zwart (The Pink Panther) will win converts to rejiggering Mr. Miyagi’s karate-lessons-hidden-in-manual labor. (Jackie Chan takes on the Wax on, Wax off mentor role.) The studio tells EW that the film scored just below Sony’s highest research screening ever, 2005’s Hitch, which ironically starred Jaden Smith’s dad Will, the last reigning movie star. With positive scores in the 97th percentile, the movie, which doesn’t open until June 11, might be one of those films that outdoes everyone’s expectations. Bill Murray Added To The Cast Of Passion Play Even as Mitch Glazer continues shooting his new drama Passion Play, there are changes afoot as Bill Murray has been added to the cast. According to Production Weekly , Murray is taking over the role of dangerous gangster Happy Shannon in the film, which already boasts the likes of Megan Fox, Mickey Rourke and Kelly Lynch. Fox plays an angel - no, really - who Rourke's down-on-his-luck trumpet player saves from Murray's mobster. And he, in return, finds redemption in her. The cameras are cranking even now in New Mexico and the movie should arrive later in the year, assuming it nabs a distribution deal over here. Jenna Fischer Get A "Hall Pass" From Farrelly Brothers Jenna Fischer is in negotiations to star as Owen Wilson's wife in "Hall Pass," a New Line comedy being directed by the Farrelly brothers. The story centers on a married couple in which the wife gives her husband a "hall pass," a free ticket to engage in extramarital encounters. Jason Sudeikis is on board as the guy's best friend, who also gets a free pass from his wife (still to be cast). Things get complicated when the wives also begin exercising their "hall pass" power. Teddy Pendergrass Dies At Age Of 59 Singer Teddy Pendergrass, the R&B love man whose chart-topping career was slowed but not stopped by a devastating car accident, died Wednesday. He was 59. His son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died in a hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago . Philly native Pendergrass, like many of the great soul singers of his generation, began singing in church. Trained as a drummer, he began supporting vocalist Harold Melvin in 1969. While the studio has a wish list of star directors like James Cameron, David Fincher, and Wes Anderson, the emergence of Webb as director comes as a huge surprise. But Mike Fleming's sources tell him Webb met about the Spidey reboot with the pic's producers and executives looking to get the picture into production later this year for a Summer 2012 release. Why will the pic take so long? Because it's likely to be shot in 3-D, and Sony Pictures plans to make an announcement about that "at the appropriate time". Daniel Craig In Negotiation To Star In "Cowboys and Aliens" DreamWorks and Jon Favreau are in talks with Daniel Craig to play the lead role in "Cowboys and Aliens" after Robert Downey Jr. ankled the project. Craig has been offered the role of Jake Johnson in the pic, based on the 2006 graphic novel about a group of Apache Indians and Western settlers who resolve to patch up their differences when an alien spaceship crash-lands in their city. Reps for Craig said it was too early to comment on whether the actor would board "Cowboys and Aliens," which Favreau is directing. Project is written by Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof. George Tillman Jr. ("Notorious") is directing the screenplay by Joe and Tony Gayton about an ex-con pursued by cops and killers as he sets out to avenge his brother's death. "Dexter's" Star Diagnosed With Cancer "Dexter" star Michael C. Hall says he was diagnosed with cancer and is on the road to the successful completion of treatment. In a statement Wednesday, Hall said he was fortunate to be diagnosed with a "treatable and curable condition," Hodgkin's lymphoma, and thanked his doctors and nurses for their expertise. The name of the Los Angeles area health facility where he has undergone treatment was not released. Craig Bankey, a spokesman for the actor, said the disease is in complete remission and Hall's treatment will continue as planned. The 38-year-old Hall plans to attend Sunday's Golden Globe awards with his wife, actress Jennifer Carpenter, and the upcoming Screen Actors Guild ceremony. Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd Teaming Up Again For The Schmucks Zach Galifianakis and Paul Rudd, who appear together in Paramount's upcoming comedy "Dinner for Schmucks," are teaming up again to star in the Paramount comedy "Will." Valerie Faris and Jonathan Dayton are directing, with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay's Gary Sanchez on board to produce. The story follows an ordinary guy (Rudd) who lives in a world where people's lives and destinies are being written by scribes in Heaven. The man wakes up one day to find that his heavenly writer (Galifianakis) has decided to no longer draft his life, and he must go about his day unscripted, ending up on a journey to fulfill his hidden potential. FlashForward and V-ABC Not Throwing In The Towel Yet Fans of ABC's sci-fi series FlashForward and V have been concerned both with the network's decision to delay both shows' spring returns until March and with whether the network continues to have confidence in them, but ABC Entertainment Group President Stephen McPherson assured reporters on Tuesday that he has a clear plan for building both shows' audiences, with two different strategies. In a press conference at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour in Pasadena, Calif., McPherson said he decided it was important to air FlashForward with no repeats, following the network's strategy for Lost's later seasons. For V, he clarified that the plan was always to tell the story in chapters, but that the first chapter got shortened to only four episodes because of production issues. "The original [1984-'85] V was two minis and then a series," McPherson said in a group interview later.

Legion Director Plans 2 Sequels Scott Stewart, the writer and co-director of Legion, said he has plans for two more films that could be done in very different genres—if the apocalyptic film about a battle among angels does well when it opens on Jan. 22. Stewart not only directed and co-wrote (with Peter Schink) the movie, but he also co-wrote the four-issue comic book Legion: Prophets with Tom Waltz for IDW Publishing. Characters mentioned or referred to in the movie are fleshed out in the comic book, which came out last November and is considered a prequel to the film. Spider-Man Going To Get A Make Over The next Spider-Man film will be a reboot of the franchise, not a continuation of series Sam Raimi created back in 2002 — in a move similar to Batman Begins restarting the Batman franchise seven years after Batman and Robin underwhelmed fans and critics. This time around, the series will place Peter Parker in a more contemporary setting, as a teenager battling today’s issues. The decision to go with an origin story stemmed from Sony developing two Spidey projects simultaneously. According to studio insiders, Sony was working on both Raimi’s Spider-Man 4 and the new origin story from James Vanderbilt, who wrote Zodiac. The original plan was to keep the Spider-Man gang together for one last film in 2011 before rebooting the series in 2012. Green Lantern Has Found It's Villain Peter Sarsgaard is in negotiations to play the villain in "Green Lantern," Warner Bros.' big-budget, Martin Campbell-directed tentpole based on the DC Comics superhero. Ryan Reynolds is starring as Hal Jordan, the test pilot who finds a downed spacecraft with a dying alien who passes him a powerful ring, introducing Jordan to an interstellar police force known as the Green Lanterns. Sarsgaard will play Dr. Hector Hammond , the pathologist son of a senator who is seen as a disappointment in his father's eyes. He becomes infused with psychic powers when he discovers a meteor.
