BOB MARLEY: ONE LOVE Featurette

CW's Hellcats Review By: Sean Lopez

CW's Hellcats Episode 1 Review
By: Sean Lopez

Over here at SandwichJohnfilms we are going to start expanding into the world of Television and start to do reviews on a few shows that we find interesting and worth watching. And some that aren't.

I want to welcome Sean Lopez to the Sandwich team. Here at SandwichJohnFilms no one gets payed or works for money, they do it because they have a passion for Movies, Television and Pop Culture. And I want to welcome him on board. Sean will be reviewing Television's for us on a weekly basis. These are shows that he has been watching for years and new shows that just started. Sean's first review is of the highly anticipated CW show Hellcats.

With the CW's new show Hellcats, Wednesdays at 9pm on the CW, we enter the world of competitive cheerleading. And competitive it is. Set in a fictional college in Memphis,Tennessee, the story is nothing new just the circumstances. We meet Marti Perkins (played by Alyson Michalka) right off the bat, the townie who enjoys making fun of her college's cheerleaders. She is a pre-law student whose mother waits tables at the local university pub. When Marti loses her scholarship she needs to find a way to pay for tuition. Enter cheerleading tryouts. Her unorthodox style gets her on the team and with it a cheerleading scholarship.

Honestly that is pretty much it. We do learn that the squad has been given an ultimatum. Win at Nationals or lose funding. Think Bring It On meets Glee and you have Hellcats. The acting is fair though better by the cheerleaders than the adults but you really won't care about the adult subplots anyway. The biggest surprise for me, however is Ashley Tisdale who does a fantastic job of portraying Savannah Monroe. When I saw the previews I figured her to be the rival of Marti. But she's just the opposite, in fact she befriends her and ends up being the best thing in Hellcats. Her back story, which we learn a bit of in the 2nd episode, is the most interesting subplot in the show though I am curious about how Marti's pre-law ambitions will interfere with her scholarship duties.

I've now seen the first 3 episodes and overall I would say give it a chance. I may not be in the show's demo but I still enjoyed it. As a Beverly Hills 90210 fan I was hoping for something like that, a new guilty pleasure. It's not 90210 good but definitely worth a shot. On a scale of watch live, DVR and watch that night, DVR and watch later in the week, or pass, I would say DVR and watch later in week. Or if you are one of the very few like me who really doesn't care for Modern Family, then this is the best option on Wednesday night.

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure
