Christopher Nolan Talks Superman Reboot

Christopher Nolan Talks Superman Reboot

In the latest issue of Empire magazine Christopher Nolan had comments to share on David S. Goyer and the upcoming Superman reboot he's penning and producing.

Nolan had this to say;

“..What it is, while David Goyer and myself were putting together the story for another Batman film a few years ago, you know thrashing out where we might move on from the Dark Knight, we got stuck. We were just sitting there idly chatting and he said ”by the way, I think I know how you approach Superman”.. and he told me his take on it. I thought it was really tremendous. It was the first time I’ve been able to conceive of how you’d address Superman in a modern context I thought it was a really exciting idea. What you have to remember about Batman and Superman is that what makes them the best superhero characters there are, the most beloved after all this time, is the essence of who they were when they were created, when they were first developed. You can’t move too far away from that.”

Nolan speaks of how well Goyer has figured out a way to put Superman in a present day setting, in a post- 9/11 era. Nolan also speaks of how you can't move too far away from how Superman has been since his creation and I know one thing Goyer is good at is his dark writing style so I do wonder how this will turn out. Goyer was quoted a few years back saying this;

“In the case of Blade, he is acting heroically, but the rest of the world thinks he’s a vigilante. As is the case with Batman. … I don’t think I’d ever be good to write Superman because it is the opposite… [the interviewer says "he's angst free"] Yeah. And I wouldn’t know the angle because I’m so angst ridden so I wouldn’t know what to do with a character like that.”

Naked Gun Reboot On It's Way

If you've seen Naked Gun - or The Naked Gun: From The Files Of Police Squad ! to give its full title - you'll know that it's a comedic masterpiece that springboards off astonishing levels of silliness and random spoofery. Leslie Nielsen's Frank Drebin is a loveable buffoon for the ages, even when he's discussing his dicky prostrate. Do not, however, expect the Ed Helms -starring reboot to adopt exactly the same tack. According to Naked Gun director/co-writer David Zucker, talking up Airplane!'s screening at Nashville's Wild West Comedy Festival, the new version will not attempt to hit the same spoofy sweet spot as the Zuckers and Jim Abrahams' 1988 comedy. "It won’t be like the Naked Gun that I did," Zucker revealed. "It may be good, but it won’t be that kind of movie. They’re going to use the title. They asked me if I wanted to produce. They’re nice people, but they don’t want to do that style of spoof that I do." One departure...
