Encom Press Conference At Wonder Con
This was the event that I went down on Friday to Wonder Con for. The sole purpose of my trip that day was to experience this event first hand and not have to read about it somewhere else.
We all knew that the Newly-minted Executive Consultant Alan Bradley was going to introduce the latest addition to the Encom International product library on April 2 in San Francisco.
But before that there was a secret meeting by the group that runs Flynn Lives which I attended. They explained how they were going to over take the press conference and demanded that Encom re-instate the search for Kevin Flynn.
During the press conference Alan Bradley came out to a crowd of cheering fans, he also brought out Lora Baines, who you all should now from the original Tron film is played by Cindy Morgan. After a quick kiss and a thank you Alan goes back on with his speech.
He let the crowd know that Encom would be re-releasing Space Paranoids, and that the 15 unreleased levels that Kevin Flynn developed would be included in the game.
Then all the sudden you hear noise and someone crashes the stage and takes over the microphone and the back drop changes with the word Flynn Lives appearing on the screen. The Protesters that were at the secret meeting start to chant "Flynn Lives" "Where's Kevin Flynn" the chant goes on for awhile and then the leader of the protesters starts to speak on stage.
“Flynn Lives is taking the stage to say what Alan Bradley is too decent and polite to say to all of you. And that is ENCOM has given up on the search for Kevin Flynn. He’s still missing, he’s still out there, and while ENCOM smeared his name to blame him for their mismanagement, while they rack up the profits off his work, Space Paranoids is, was, and always will be a Kevin Flynn work of art.”
We start to hear some noise coming from overhead in the sky, and then wham the Encom Helicopter flies over our heads and make a few fly byes. Then you see a dot of light in the sky, having no clue to what is coming down, the light gets bright and brighter then you notice it is someone flying down with a parachute. The wind was so strong at this point I thought the guys was going to die for a minute, as he landed I noticed the number 89 on the parachute but had no clue what it meant until today.
The young man who dropped out of the Encom Helicopter was none other than Sam Flynn, in the video below he explain how the year 1989 changed his life and why he was doing what he was doing.
The viral campaign that Disney is putting on is quite amazing. Although it didn't live up to the high expectation that I had for this event, when compared to the last one that they had. It was none the less well worth freezing my ass off by the bay. And I can not wait to see what is next and what they have in store for Comic Con this year.
